The benefits of Greek yogurt before going to sleep

Snacks between meals are not recommended in most diets and it is true that they generally lead to weight gain. Nevertheless, if your snacking is limited to healthy foods, it may well help you lose weight, sleep better and even help your body achieve its training goals.

Consider the type of food you choose, as well as the amount. Time of day is also important, but if you choose healthy and nutritionally balanced snacks, you won't be able to make many mistakes.

Taking into account the points mentioned above, it is true that after an intensive training, the meal can be a little light and we can start to feel hungry before going to bed. In this case, hunger can be the cause of an early awakening that shortens the rest time necessary to achieve your goals. If you are in this case, we recommend that you introduce Greek yogurt into your diet before going to bed, for the following reasons:

Low in calories

To avoid unwanted weight gain, it is important to choose a low-calorie food. Low-fat white Greek yogurt contains 59 calories per 100 grams, a very low number of calories. Thick and creamy, it fills more than other yoghurts and satisfies you until breakfast.

Rich in protein

If you want to gain lean muscle mass and improve your training results, Greek yogurt can help to increase and rebuild muscles, as well as prevent muscle loss during your sleep. This will counterbalance the catabolic state in which the body enters during the 6-8 hours of normal sleep due to the lack of calories it receives.

Low in sugar

If you choose a natural Greek yogurt with no added sugar, you will avoid raising your blood sugar before bedtime, which could affect the quality of your sleep. Excess sugar also increases calories consumed without real nutritional content, which can also lead to weight gain.

Improves sleep

Dairy products such as Greek yogurt contain an amino acid called tryptophan. This amino acid is converted by the body into two hormones, serotonin and melatonin, which will help you to recover or rest your metabolism.

Digestion aid

Greek yogurt is full of probiotics, healthy and beneficial bacteria that promote digestion and the immune system. These two systems are very important for the proper functioning of your body, so eating probiotic-rich foods such as Greek yogurt frequently can help you to function optimally.
