Initially, VALORANT, the first-person shooter game developed by Riot Games, had a relatively simple progression system. It included a Battlepass, account levels, and agent contracts to unlock characters and associated cosmetic items. Unlike Riot Games' flagship game, League of Legends, Valorant did not feature a currency system that could be acquired with real money.
However, these two elements will undergo significant changes with the release of Act 1 of Episode 7. The progression system will be overhauled, particularly with radical modifications to agent contracts. Additionally, players will discover the introduction of Kingdom Credits, a new currency that will offer them new opportunities to unlock content.
The Valorant progression system has undergone various changes that affect in-game elements outside of matches:
Agent contracts have been replaced by an agent shop, where you can purchase agent gear and participate in agent recruitment events.
Kingdom Credits are the new currency used in Valorant. They cannot be purchased with real money but are obtained for free.
This currency allows you to acquire:
Therefore, Kingdom Credits are an incredibly useful currency. There are several ways to obtain them:
The amount of credits you earn increases when you win rounds in game modes with rounds. However, it is not possible to accumulate more than 10,000 Kingdom Credits (to give you an idea, an agent costs 8,000 Kingdom Credits).
With the implementation of the new progression system on June 27, 2023, agent contracts will be removed. How will agents be unlocked in the future in Valorant?
Through new agent recruitment events. When a new agent is introduced, a recruitment event will be launched for all Valorant players. For 28 days, the experience you gain during matches will also count towards this recruitment event. Once you have accumulated enough experience to obtain that agent, you will unlock it. If you are unable to unlock the agent with experience, you can still purchase it with Valorant Points or Kingdom Credits.
In addition to the previously mentioned changes, two new shop options will be available.
The first option allows you to acquire agent gear. With the removal of agent contracts, it will now be possible to directly purchase agent gear using exclusively Kingdom Credits.
The second option will offer the opportunity to purchase accessories from previous Battlepasses. You will only be able to spend Kingdom Credits, and you will only be able to buy accessories—no weapons or knives will be available. Furthermore, this option will be personalized and change weekly, meaning you will not have the same selection as other players.
These are all the information you need to know about this new progression system implemented on June 27, 2023.
