LaLiga sets a historic attendance record with over 15 million spectators

This represents a 6.4% increase compared to the 2018/2019 season, the last season where the public had unrestricted access before the Covid pandemic.

LaLiga sets a historic attendance record with 15,776,311 spectators during the 2022/2023 season. This represents a 6.4% increase compared to the 2018/2019 season, the last season where the public had unrestricted access before the Covid pandemic. In the 21/22 season, a full capacity occupancy was only achieved from October onwards, resulting in a 31.3% increase compared to the previous season.

In LaLiga Santander, the number of spectators present in the stadiums was 11,179,866, and in LaLiga SmartBank, once the promotion playoffs were completed, this figure reached 4,596,445.

This season started with several stadiums undergoing partial or complete renovations in their stands. The second-largest stadium in LaLiga, Santiago Bernabéu with 83,186 seats, maintained a significant occupancy rate despite the ongoing works, reaching 78% of its total capacity. Villarreal and their reserve team played almost half of the season away from Cerámica due to renovations in Levante's stadium and the sports center. Balaidos and Estadi Mallorca Son Moix also underwent renovations with partial closures of their stands.

Furthermore, despite the mentioned works, it's worth noting that the average stadium occupancy rate in relation to the available capacity this season was 80.2%, representing a 14.6% increase compared to the pre-Covid 18/19 season and a 33.6% increase compared to the 21/22 season.

Taking these factors into account throughout the seasons, the trend in stadium attendance data has continued to grow, except during periods of pandemic-related restrictions. This confirms that the competitiveness of Spanish professional football is increasingly attracting interest from spectators attending LaLiga stadiums.
