How does the Tree of Whispers work in Diablo 4?

The highly anticipated Diablo 4 is finally available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X since June 6, 2023! You now have the opportunity to test out the five classes offered in the game: Rogue, Necromancer, Druid, Barbarian, and Sorcerer.

The Tree of Whispers plays a crucial role in Diablo as it grants access to the Nightmare mode and offers numerous rewards. Its functioning is based on sinister favors, world events, and legendary rewards.

In Diablo IV, the Tree of Whispers is located in the Broken Spikes, the first region of the game, specifically in the southeast of Kyovashad.

Without spoiling the plot, the Tree of Whispers provides an excellent way to easily obtain equipment at the beginning of the endgame phase. Once unlocked, it generates various events scattered across the map. These events allow you to collect Sinister Favors.

Once you reach 10 Sinister Favors, you can exchange them for a rewards chest from the tree. Here are the different activities and rewards that await you.

The Small activities grant you a Sinister Favor as a reward and consist of the following elements: A corpse will be highlighted with a red glow, simply click on it to trigger the appearance of waves of monsters. Eliminate them one by one until an elite monster appears, which you will also need to defeat. Accomplish specific tasks, such as killing a certain number of enemies (e.g., 50 wolves), as well as participating in events with other players.

The Medium activities reward you with three Sinister Favors and consist of the following elements: Destroying multiple rituals in the area, conducting a harvest by eliminating 100 creatures of a specific type in the area, and defeating an elite monster in PvP mode.

The Big activities grant you 5 Sinister Favors as a reward and include the following elements: Completing a dungeon, defeating an elite monster in a PvP (Player versus Player) zone, and eliminating a World Boss.

These activities can be distinguished by their color and the number of spikes surrounding their icon, ranging from pink to red and from 4 to 8 spikes.

Once you have collected the 10 favors, return to the Tree of Whispers and engage in a conversation with it. As a reward, it offers you a choice between three chests containing different rewards. Each chest contains fewer Nightmare Emblems and rare items. The type of chest chosen guarantees you at least one equipment of that type. For example, choosing a "Leggings" chest will ensure you receive at least one pair of pants.

When you open the chest, you will discover a variety of interesting items, as well as the opportunity to obtain a legendary item. The possibilities are vast, ranging from sacred legendary items to glyphs, Nightmare Emblems, and much more. The first chest of the week has a higher chance of containing a legendary item.
