Worlds 2023: Record watch time, Team BDS, GAM Esports shine
The positive impact of Team BDS and GAM Esports, along with a 40% increase in watch time, solidify Worlds 2023 as the premier esports event of the year. Extensive coverage and the new group stage format add to its appeal.
The kick-off of the main stage of Worlds 2023 set new records in terms of audience statistics. The event saw a significant increase of 40% in watch time, with a peak viewership increase of 22% on the opening day. This surge in spectators can be attributed in part to the participation of two-well known teams, Team BDS and GAM Esports in the tournament.
Worlds 2023 received broader coverage from official League of Legends esports channels globally and drew increased attention from community casters. Compared to the 2022 edition, the number of channels covering the first day of Worlds 2023 groups nearly tripled. This expansion can be explained to the introduction of a new group stage format, 16 teams play in Swiss-system format with five rounds.
