Overwatch Champions Series: reviving esports glory in 2024
Blizzard Entertainment aims to revive the Overwatch competitive scene with the introduction of Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) in 2024. Following the closure of the Overwatch League in 2023, the developer is preparing for a comeback.
Announced on January 23, OWCS is positioned as the premier international competitive circuit, open to players from North America, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, South Korea, Japan, and the Pacific. The upcoming season will adopt a multifaceted esports approach, with each region hosting Open Qualifiers and Main Events. Notably, North American and European regions will collaborate with esports platform FACEIT for open and sustainable infrastructure.
Players will accumulate circuit points throughout the season, determining their qualification for international events based on leaderboards. The OWCS Major, the first international event, is scheduled for May 31 to June 2 at DreamHack Dallas, followed by Season Finals in Europe at DreamHack Stockholm later in the year.
As Overwatch 2 signals a rebirth for the competitive scene, the OWCS Open Qualifiers kick off in March for North America and Europe, and in February for the Asian region, promising a return for fans and players.
