In Sea of Thieves, a group of players explores a vast open world aboard a pirate ship, each taking on different navigation responsibilities such as steering, sails, cannons, etc. They can undertake quests, amass treasures, face various monsters such as ghosts, krakens, megalodons, and engage in battles against other crews and AI-controlled enemy ships.
As Sea of Thieves is a shared-world game, crews frequently encounter opponents during their adventures. However, players also have the option to create their own private server, called "The Shores of Plenty," where they can sail solo or with their crew, away from encounters with other players.
