2025: League of Legends esports levels up with new tournaments and innovations
In 2025, League of Legends esports will undergo significant transformations to enhance competition and sustainability. Riot Games has outlined key updates, including a new international event, the "Fearless Draft" mode, and adjustments to the split schedule and regional league structures.
A notable addition is a third international event, set to follow the first split in every region. This tournament will feature top teams in a round-robin best-of-series format, with results influencing seeding for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).
The innovative "Fearless Draft" mode will debut in Tier 1 play, banning champions used in previous games within a series to ensure varied matchups.
Riot Games will unify split schedules across all leagues and introduce multi-region leagues in APAC and the Americas. The LCS and CBLOL will form the North and South conferences of a new Americas league, incorporating teams from the LLA. In the APAC region, the VCS will integrate into the Pacific Championship Series (PCS), creating an eight-team circuit.
These changes aim to balance viewership appeal and financial sustainability, addressing challenges faced by regional leagues and enhancing the global competitive landscape of League of Legends esports.
