It’s one of Nintendo’s most anticipated games of the year, and it didn’t fail to impress during the post-E3 presentation. Luigi’s Mansion 3 was showcased to visitors through a 15-minute demo, offering a glimpse into the new adventures of the most timid of ghost hunters. This demonstration confirmed that the formula that made the first two installments a success remains unchanged while introducing some refreshing new features.
In this new adventure, Luigi must once again explore a haunted mansion armed with his trusty ghost vacuum. While the basic equipment remains the same, requiring a flash to make ghosts vulnerable before vacuuming them up, Luigi now has new techniques to defend himself. He can propel himself into the air to repel attackers, shoot suction cups to disarm shielded enemies, and even use captured ghosts as weapons against their fellow spirits. These additions ensure that ghost hunting doesn’t become monotonous and introduce new attack patterns for enemies.
Exploration continues to be a key element of the game, with puzzles to solve throughout the adventure. Gooigi, Luigi’s green, gooey doppelgänger who can be controlled at any time, brings a new dimension to the gameplay. This character can walk on spikes, activate distant switches, and perform various tasks that Luigi cannot—except when there is water, which is his weakness. Gooigi also serves as an avatar for the cooperative mode, allowing two players to assist each other by controlling separate characters with their own controllers.
This third installment introduces many new options, and there is hope that the developers will fully utilize them to offer Luigi a longer and richer adventure compared to previous entries, which were often criticized for their short gameplay duration. The demo has certainly succeeded in generating excitement among fans and increasing anticipation for a game whose exact release date has not yet been announced but is expected to arrive sometime in 2019 on Nintendo Switch.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 is shaping up to be a captivating experience, blending the old with the new to appeal to both longtime fans and new players. With its new features, cooperative mode, and renewed challenges, the game promises to be one of the must-play titles of the end of the year. As we await the official release date announcement, anticipation for Luigi’s new adventure continues to grow.
