PMGO 2024 shatters records, next stop Uzbekistan
The PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) was introduced to provide players a direct path to international events through open qualifiers, hence called the Global Open. Launched in 2024 amid changes to the PUBG Mobile esports ecosystem, it complements new partnered leagues: PMSL SEA, EMEA, Americas, and Central/South Asia, limiting the roadmap to fewer teams.
The first PMGO in 2024, held in Sao Paulo, was a smash hit, recording over 510,000 peak viewers. The excitement doesn't end there, as the 2025 edition is set to take place in Uzbekistan, marking a historic first for the country in hosting a major international esports event.
Uzbekistan has been nurturing its regional PUBG Mobile ecosystem, with initiatives like the Uzbekistan Cup in partnership with the Uzbekistan Cybersport Association and BIGPLAY.GG. The PMGO offers a golden opportunity for tier 2 teams to compete at the highest level of PUBG Mobile esports.
Announced in late 2023, Yang emphasized PMGO's potential to explore new esports markets. While the venue and schedule for the 2025 edition remain under wraps, details are expected early in the year. Despite time zone differences, the 2024 PMGO boasted impressive viewership stats, hitting 513,000 peak viewers and an average of 154,000.
