Team BDS wins RLCS 2024; viewership shifts with fewer hours

Team BDS Wins RLCS 2024 as Viewership Shifts

The RLCS 2024 World Championship, held in Fort Worth, concluded on September 15, with Team BDS securing their second world championship title, defeating G2 Stride 4-2. The tournament experienced a significant shift in viewership patterns compared to previous seasons. Notably, this year's event recorded lower hours watched, about 7.4 million, due to the elimination of the Wild Card stage, which shortened the event by roughly 18 hours. However, the tournament achieved a respectable average of 153.7K viewers despite these challenges.

One of the standout moments for viewership came during Karmine Corp’s semifinal against G2 Stride, which peaked at 426.8K viewers, marking the highest point of the tournament. However, the grand final between G2 and Team BDS only reached 304K peak viewers, a noticeable drop from last year’s final, which drew 121.2K more viewers. The French community remains pivotal in driving RLCS viewership, with popular French streamers Kamet0 and Gotaga pulling 139.5K and 95K viewers, respectively, during their teams’ runs.

Despite these fluctuations, the RLCS 2024 World Championship remains the second-most-popular world championship event in RLCS history, largely thanks to the influence of French teams and content creators. If Karmine Corp or Gentle Mates Alpine had progressed further, the viewership could have potentially broken all-time RLCS records.
