
The 2024 Worlds Play-In stage breaks global viewership records early
The 2024 League of Legends World Championship kicked off with a bang as the Play-In stage opened on September 25. The event attracted an impressive peak of 1.3 million concurrent viewers, showcasing a rise in audience interest compared to previous years.
Day one featured two highly anticipated matches: MAD Lions KOI vs. Vikings Esports and PSG Talon vs. paiN Gaming. These matchups drew large global audiences, particularly from Brazil, Vietnam, and China.
The Play-In's success is evident in its viewership stats. Brazilian team paiN Gaming contributed to a peak of 330,000 Portuguese-speaking viewers, while Vietnam's support for Vikings Esports added a substantial number of fans. Chinese-speaking audiences also tuned in to support PSG Talon. Although Korean viewership was lower due to the absence of Korean teams, the overall numbers still surged.
The event garnered 5.33 million Hours Watched on the first day, reflecting an increase of 2.35 million hours compared to 2023. With regional audiences engaged, the Play-In stage is set to be one of the most-watched in Worlds history.
