Fortnite is about to revolutionize the gaming world once again with the launch of its brand-new mode, "Frenzy" (also called "Ballistic"). Scheduled for December 11, 2024, this 5v5 First Person Shooter (FPS) mode promises an intense and strategic gaming experience, reminiscent of classics like Counter-Strike and Valorant.
"Frenzy" centers around 5v5 matches where strategy, teamwork, and individual skill are key. Players are divided into two teams: attackers, whose goal is to place and detonate a "rift trigger" at one of the two sites on the map, and defenders, tasked with preventing the explosion at all costs. Each match is played over several rounds, with the first team to win 7 rounds being declared the victor. Every 6 rounds, roles are reversed, giving each team the chance to both attack and defend.
One of the standout features of "Frenzy" is the use of special gadgets. Before the start of a match, each player chooses one of the five available gadgets: proximity mine, protective bubble, recon grenade, frag grenade, or repulsive grenade. These gadgets, exclusive to the player who selects them, add a tactical dimension and allow players to customize their gameplay according to their preferred style.
The "Frenzy" mode will be available in early access with a first map, Megalopolis 10 (Skyline 10), a starter arsenal of weapons, and a limited number of items. Epic Games plans to add more content over time based on player feedback, including new maps, weapons, and features.
"Frenzy" offers two types of matches: unranked, for casual gameplay with the possibility of replacements if a player leaves, and ranked, for competitive players, featuring a ranking system and penalties for quitting. Ranked matchmaking will be based on the average rank of groups, ensuring balanced and competitive matches.
With "Frenzy," Epic Games seems poised to compete with FPS giants like Counter-Strike and Valorant. By borrowing familiar mechanics and adding its unique Fortnite touch, the studio hopes to appeal to both veteran players and newcomers.
"Frenzy" will be available on all platforms supporting Fortnite: PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, Cloud Gaming, and mobile devices.
