Overwatch 2 esports expands globally, with China hosting epic events

The Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) is leveling up in 2025 with a massive expansion into China! Overwatch 2 esports just got even more global, joining forces with regions like North America, EMEA, and Asia. The action kicks off with an epic live event in Hangzhou this April.

This move coincides with the relaunch of Overwatch 2's servers in China on February 19, 2025, after a two-year break due to regulatory issues. Blizzard has worked with Chinese company NetEase to bring the game back, and a technical test is scheduled for January. The OWCS will also feature three international events, including Champions Clash in China.

In 2025, Overwatch 2 will roll out a dynamic three-split competitive circuit, bringing intense regional rivalries to life. Teams from all over the world will battle through multiple stages, with the stakes high as they compete for spots in the Midseason Championship at the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia and the epic World Finals at DreamHack in Sweden. The OWCS will also launch a Partner Program, where nine handpicked teams will earn a share of the in-game crowdfunding revenue. This exciting development marks Overwatch 2’s major push to re-establish itself in China and fuel the growth of esports there.
