In the vast and immersive world of Monster Hunter Wilds, epic hunts for massive creatures are just one part of the adventure. The developers have also introduced a fascinating endemic wildlife system, allowing hunters to interact with smaller but equally intriguing creatures. Among them, the Dapperwing—a green-feathered bird—has caught the attention of researchers and hunters alike. Capturing this bird isn't just a side quest; it's a true dive into the game's ecosystem.
Encountering the Dapperwing usually happens after assisting Dareel in a mission involving the Markoda Lizard. At that point, Samin, another passionate researcher, requests your help to further his studies by tasking you with capturing a Dapperwing. This mission takes you deep into the Scarlet Forest, a dense and mysterious area ruled by nature.
The Dapperwing is easily recognizable by its bright green plumage. It tends to perch in high places, such as sturdy branches, steep rocks, or other natural structures. It's important to note that some Dapperwing appear in scripted scenes—especially when they land on carnivorous plants. These birds cannot be captured and mainly serve to enrich the game's atmosphere.
To maximize your chances of capturing one, it's recommended to visit the Scarlet Forest during the daytime. The increased brightness makes it easier to spot perched Dapperwings. One particularly good location is Zone 14, where ruins provide ideal perching spots. Once there, you must equip the Capture Net, which can be accessed through your item bar. This tool allows you to precisely target small creatures.
The approach must be handled with care. While Dapperwings are relatively docile, a sudden movement might startle them. To prevent this, using the Ghillie Mantle is advised. This cloak temporarily renders you invisible to creatures, allowing you to get close without alarming them. Once within range, simply aim with the Capture Net and fire to successfully catch the Dapperwing.
After a successful capture, return to the base camp to present your find to Samin. As a reward, he will give you consumables such as mushrooms and honey, along with some guild points. Though modest, these rewards are essential for progressing in the game and unlocking rarer resources.
