In Monster Hunter Wilds, released on February 28, 2025, a brand-new investigation system arrives to make your hunts even more exciting and personalized. Here’s everything you need to know to unlock and master this system that will revolutionize your gaming experience.
To access investigations, you first need to progress in the main story until Chapter 4, titled "Ecosystems." Once you reach this chapter, you will receive a special quest: capture a high-rank Yian Kut-Ku. Upon completing this mission, you’ll not only unlock investigations but also the field investigation quest feature, which will open up new possibilities for you.
Investigations are a dynamic and flexible way to create custom quests. Each time you strike a monster in an open region, an investigation is automatically generated. Once the investigation is created, you can save it as a contract. To do so, simply open the map, select the targeted monster, and choose the "Create Quest" option. Saving an investigation will cost guild points. The more complex and lucrative the investigation, the more expensive it will be. You can save up to 50 investigations at once.
Investigations offer several practical advantages for hunters. They give you additional rewards on top of the regular rewards. They are perfect for gathering rare components or specific weapons. You can also hunt the same monster up to 3 times under the same conditions, maximizing your chances. Finally, you can share your investigations with other players, making it ideal for hunting together and increasing your chances of success.
To make the most of the investigation system, here are a few tips to keep in mind. Use the history to create investigations from your last 16 hunts by talking to Alma. Before you head out, take a look at the map to see what rewards each monster may offer. Make sure your teammates have the required hunter rank to participate in the investigation. Don’t hesitate to adjust the season or time of day via the "rest" option in a camp, as this can change the available monsters. If you find a golden crown during a solo hunt (large or small), save it so your friends can enjoy it too. For rare investigations, do them directly on the map and save them to double your rewards.
