Which Characters Will Be in Mario Kart World?

Set to release on June 5, 2025, on the Nintendo Switch 2, Mario Kart World is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the series — especially thanks to its massive character roster. With 60 playable characters, the game blends iconic Mario veterans with some truly unexpected newcomers.

On the classic side, fan favorites are all present: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Toad, Toadette, Wario, Waluigi, Birdo, Shy Guy, and Koopa Troopa all return. The beloved baby versions are also here: Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, and Baby Rosalina. Other familiar faces like Bowser Jr., Lakitu, King Boo, and Dry Bones round out this lineup of iconic characters.

But what really sets Mario Kart World apart is its bold new selection of drivers. Nintendo went all-in on originality here. Notable additions include Moo-Moo, inspired by the cows from Moo Moo Meadows, Bill Dozer, the sports field brute, and Monty Mole, the mischievous underground critter. Even classic enemies like Goomba and Pokey are now playable. Fresh faces like Cataquack, Pianta, Peepa, Dolphin, a snowman, a crab, Spike, and a penguin bring whimsy and variety to the mix. This unexpected blend creates a roster as wild as it is fun — perfect for chaotic, unpredictable races.

And that’s not all: Mario Kart World also features alternate skins. Some characters have special outfits you can choose before a race. Think Cowboy Mario, Peach in a yukata, or Daisy in a swimsuit. These don’t affect gameplay, but they add a stylish personal touch and expand customization options.

With its 60-character lineup, Mario Kart World goes far beyond Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and sets a bold new standard for the series. Post-launch DLC is likely, just as Nintendo has done in the past. A few notable names like Funky Kong, Dry Bowser, and Diddy Kong are missing for now, but that doesn’t mean they won’t make a comeback later.

In short, this new Mario Kart means business: it brings a supersized roster full of nostalgia, surprises, and fresh energy. Whether you're a longtime fan or a total newcomer, you'll definitely find a character that clicks — and more than enough mayhem on the track to keep things exciting.
