Ever since Star Wars Battlefront II released in 2017, fans have never stopped hoping for a third installment. Eight years later, that hope has turned into action: a petition launched in 2025 on Change.org is gaining momentum, calling on EA and Disney to kick off development on Battlefront 3. But will it really make a difference? And what’s the current status of the project? Here's everything you need to know.
The petition was started by a user going by the name Dan Merc, and it quickly took off—gathering over 9,000 signatures in less than two weeks, and surpassing 10,000 according to some sources. The message is clear: players have been waiting forever, the potential for a Battlefront 3 is massive in terms of story and gameplay, and it represents a solid business opportunity for both EA and Disney, especially with the continued success of the Star Wars franchise.
Fans are also pointing out how much money the Star Wars brand has brought in for EA over the years. They’re asking for a game with deeper customization, characters that truly evolve, movie-like missions, and, most of all, epic battles that fully immerse players in the universe.
So why the renewed push now? Several factors. First, nostalgia: for many, Battlefront is the ultimate multiplayer Star Wars experience. Then there's the recent resurgence of Battlefront II, which saw renewed attention around Star Wars Day and the success of Andor Season 2, drawing in both returning players and new fans—and reigniting the conversation about a sequel.
But there’s also growing frustration. EA and DICE have halted updates for Battlefront II, and there’s been no official word on a third installment. The community has become incredibly active on Reddit and social media, to the point where moderators have had to limit posts because of the sheer volume.
Unfortunately, Battlefront 3 isn’t easy to make. The project has already been cancelled twice—once back in the 2000s, and more recently when DICE pitched a new game to EA, which rejected it due to the high costs of the Star Wars license. On top of that, DICE is currently focused on other major projects like Battlefield 6, so in the short term, things aren’t looking promising.
