After years of waiting and countless requests from the community, Proximity Chat is finally making its way into Fortnite. This new feature promises to completely change the atmosphere of the Battle Royale, making interactions more immersive… and paving the way for all kinds of hilarious chaos.
The concept is simple: only players nearby can hear each other. Whether it’s teammates, enemies, or complete strangers you stumble upon in a building, voices are only triggered when you’re close enough. Since its announcement, reactions have ranged from excitement to the anticipation of joyful chaos. While Proximity Chat allows for quick cooperation, bluffing, or spontaneous alliances, it also opens the door to absurd situations: discreet trash talk from inside a bush, panicked screams during a storm, instant betrayals, or even ridiculous singing to lure an enemy into a trap. Players in Creative mode and UEFN are already imagining scenarios where voice chat becomes a weapon in itself.
Epic Games, well aware of the risks, has set up safeguards. Parental control settings still apply, preventing any player with a mic blocked by their parents from using the feature. Reporting tools are also built in to handle abuse.
In just a few days of early access, social media has already been flooded with videos of players using the system to surprise, troll, or simply cause uncontrollable laughter. A new era is dawning for Fortnite—one mixing immersion, fun, and limitless creativity. From now on, every match could turn into an improvised comedy sketch… and no one plans to miss out.
