The year 2025 is off to a flying start for Nintendo with the announcement of Super Mario Bros Wonder on Switch 2, already shaping up to be a must-play moment for gamers. Originally released in 2023 on the first Switch, the game charmed players with its return to classic 2D platforming roots and its whimsical world powered by the famous Wonder Flower. This new version goes far beyond a simple port: it has been designed to fully harness the power of the Switch 2, featuring 4K graphics via the dock, reduced loading times, and improved use of the new controllers.
Colors are even more vibrant, animations run smoother, and Mario’s world is more eccentric than ever. The effects tied to the Wonder Flower have reached a new level, making each stage feel livelier and more spectacular.
To celebrate, Nintendo is releasing a special edition that collectors won’t want to miss. It includes a physical copy of the game with an exclusive cover, a pair of Mario- and Luigi-themed Joy-Con, an artbook filled with never-before-seen sketches tracing the game’s development, a collectible Elephant Mario figurine, and a code to unlock bonus in-game content such as character costumes.
But the real highlight is the exclusive additional content. Nintendo is adding around twenty brand-new levels spread across fresh worlds, cooperative challenges for up to four players that will put teamwork to the test, and two new playable characters: Daisy and Rosalina making her 2D Mario debut. Players will also be able to unlock alternate costumes inspired by classics like Tanooki Mario or Luigi from Galaxy.
Nintendo is aiming much higher than a simple re-release: this Super Mario Bros Wonder is designed as the perfect gateway to the Switch 2. Just like Breath of the Wild in 2017, the Kyoto-based company wants its new console to launch with a major title capable of captivating both families and the most dedicated fans.
