Battlefield 6 naturally includes crossplay, meaning players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series can all join the same matches. It’s a standard feature in modern FPS games, but not everyone is a fan. Some appreciate playing with friends regardless of platform, while others point out imbalances between controller and mouse-keyboard players, or an increased risk of cheating on PC.
By default, crossplay is enabled as soon as you install the game. You can face players from any platform without realizing it. For EA, the benefit is clear: shorter queue times and a unified community. Keeping everyone together ensures full servers and smoother matchmaking. Still, not everyone likes this approach, especially console players who want a 100% console experience without PC opponents often more precise thanks to their setup.
Luckily, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, you can turn it off. Go to the game’s Settings, open the System or Configuration menu, then look for the Crossplay option. When you’re not in a match or matchmaking, you can switch it off. Once disabled, matchmaking is limited to your platform only: PS5 vs PS5 or Xbox vs Xbox. It’s an easy way to stick with console players and avoid unbalanced duels.
There’s a trade-off though. Turning off crossplay shrinks the player pool, which can lead to longer queue times, especially outside peak hours. It’s a balance between comfort and convenience. EA recommends leaving it on for faster matchmaking, but the choice is yours.
On PC, the situation is different. You can’t disable crossplay at all right now. The option simply doesn’t exist in the menus or through EA App or Steam. Every PC player is automatically matched with other platforms. Many in the community dislike this, mainly due to the higher rate of cheating on PC. On Reddit and the official forums, players have been asking EA to add a disable option, but the developers haven’t made any official statement yet.
One last detail: Battlefield 6 doesn’t offer a “consoles-only crossplay” mode. If you disable crossplay on PS5, you won’t face Xbox players, and vice versa. Each ecosystem remains isolated, which avoids hardware differences but also prevents matches between console communities.
