Tanxiang is one of the most important NPCs in Where Winds Meet, especially if you want to lean fully into the wuxia experience and make the most of dialogue choices. She’s a discreet character, but your answers directly affect your reputation, unlock multiple side quests, and even grant some very useful bonuses. You first encounter her during the “Memories of the Wind” quest in Sundara Land, north of the Qinghe Plains.
To find her, head toward the nomad camp in Sundara Land, east of the abandoned temple and just south of the hanging bridge. On the map, this is roughly at coordinates X: 1450, Y: 890. Be aware that Tanxiang doesn’t appear at just any time. You must first activate the main quest “The Promised Light” by reaching 6,000 Qinghe exploration points with the local Traveler. After that, she only appears at night, between 8 PM and 5 AM in-game, sitting near a campfire surrounded by dried herbs. Approach carefully, as bandits often patrol the area. Using stealth or the grappling hook helps avoid unnecessary fights before starting the dialogue.
Once the conversation begins, Tanxiang asks three questions tied to her past as a wandering merchant. These choices matter a lot: the right answers significantly increase your Jianghu reputation and unlock her full questline. For the first question, “Does the wind carry away regrets?”, answer “No, it turns them into strength.” You gain reputation and receive a hint about rare herbs. For the second, “What are possessions worth compared to freedom?”, choose “They become chains if you cling to them,” which unlocks the quest “Herbs at the End of the World” and rewards you with Healing Berries. Finally, for “To stay or to leave, what is the true journey?”, the best answer is “To leave in order to return, the circle of the wind.” This fully seals your alliance with Tanxiang and even allows you to recruit Yuan Jin’gang as a temporary companion.
