Overwatch 2 esports goes global again with a reimagined 2026 competitive vision

Blizzard has outlined major plans for Overwatch 2 esports in 2026, revealing a reworked Overwatch Champions Series alongside the return of the Overwatch World Cup. Together, they signal a renewed push toward a more global, structured competitive ecosystem.

The 2026 Overwatch Champions Series will revolve around four key regions: North America, EMEA, Asia, and China. Regional stages will determine the top contenders, who will then move on to a global showdown against the world’s elite teams. Although Blizzard hasn’t shared details on the event’s format or venue yet, the return to a strong international focus represents a big evolution for the competitive scene.

A key upgrade is the expanded OWCS Partner Program, growing from nine to 11 teams and officially welcoming Chinese organizations. Blizzard also introduced a Pre-Season Bootcamp, allowing partner teams to train together in Seoul in February, complete with scheduled scrims and preparation ahead of the season.

Alongside the OWCS, the Overwatch World Cup is making its return, with the competition reaching its climax at BlizzCon 2026. National teams from Asia, EMEA, and America will battle it out through conference cups and online qualifiers, and only the strongest will secure a place at the live finals. With more defined qualification paths and a truly global scope, 2026 has the potential to be a major turning point for Overwatch esports.
