Hytale: How to Increase Your Inventory Size

In Hytale, your base inventory has a limited number of slots (36 spaces, not counting the hotbar). It fills up fast when you’re exploring, mining, looting, or fighting, and having to drop items can quickly become frustrating. Luckily, the game lets you expand your inventory by crafting and upgrading a backpack.

To increase your inventory size, you’ll need to use your Workbench. Once you’re there, open the 4th tab, “Tinkering”, recognizable by the red target icon. Inside, you’ll find the backpack recipe. To craft the basic one, you need 8 iron ingots and 16 medium leather.

After crafting it, you’ll receive a recipe sheet. Put it in your inventory and use it. This permanently adds 9 extra slots, accessible through the backpack icon to the right of your character in the inventory screen. It’s a permanent upgrade, letting you carry more resources and loot without having to run back to your base every few minutes.

And it doesn’t stop there. You can further expand your inventory with upgraded versions of the backpack. To do that, you first need to upgrade your Workbench to higher tiers and gather rarer resources. For example, Upgrade 2 requires materials like ash fabric, cobalt, and thick leather, while an even more advanced version includes items such as a Void Heart, adamantite, and rare leathers. Each upgrade adds even more slots compared to the previous one.

The general idea is that your base inventory is intentionally limited to push you to progress through the game. By crafting and upgrading backpacks via your Workbench, you can steadily increase your storage capacity as you explore, fight, and unlock new resources.

If you really want even more space, some mods also add extra backpacks, but that goes beyond the official gameplay experience.
