WoW Midnight: everything we know about the next major World of Warcraft expansion

World of Warcraft: Midnight is the eleventh major expansion for World of Warcraft, announced at Gamescom 2025 and scheduled for a worldwide release on March 2, 2026 (March 3 in Europe). It represents the second chapter of the Worldsoul Saga, following The War Within.

This expansion throws players into an intense cosmic conflict between the forces of Light and Void, with the terrifying threat of Xal’atath returning to Azeroth. The story is designed to be darker and more emotionally charged, with developers already confirming the deaths of major characters to reinforce the dramatic weight of the saga.

One of Midnight’s biggest changes is the increase of the level cap to 90, opening the door to new quests, abilities, and customization options, while significantly expanding PvE content across the board.

The expansion also introduces four new regions to explore, each with its own theme and narrative progression. These are brand-new or reimagined territories that deepen the fight against the Void and push the story forward.

On the gameplay side, Midnight brings several long-awaited features requested by the community. These include a Hunt system, allowing players to track down powerful and rare targets across Azeroth, a fully fledged Player Housing system where you can own and customize your own home, and Labyrinths, massive solo-focused dungeons designed to be explored in multiple ways. On top of that, new dungeons, raids, and PvP activities such as Killing Hill expand the traditional endgame experience.

Midnight Season 1 will feature a main raid with six bosses, a single-boss mini-raid, outdoor bosses, and a brand-new Mythic+ rotation mixing entirely new content with reworked dungeons.

Ahead of launch, Blizzard is rolling out Patch 12.0, which serves as the pre-patch for Midnight. It introduces events like Twilight Ascension and various in-game bonuses, gradually immersing players in the themes and threats of the Void.

Finally, Midnight is available for pre-order in several editions, including a limited physical Collector’s Edition aimed at fans and collectors, featuring exclusive bonuses celebrating the central conflict between Light and Void.
