In Mario Tennis Fever, Frenzy Rackets are the main gameplay addition. There are around 30 in total, each featuring a unique effect triggered through the Fever gauge after a long enough rally. Some are available from the start, but most must be unlocked by playing matches or progressing through the game’s different modes.
The core functionality remains the same across all rackets. Each Frenzy Racket modifies the special Fever shot: some create obstacles on the court, others apply status effects such as freeze or burn, while some directly enhance the player with increased speed or power. The goal is to create different combinations depending on the character used and the court being played.
At launch, several rackets are already available, usually the most straightforward ones such as the Flame, Ice, or standard variants. These serve mainly to introduce the Fever mechanic before unlocking more chaotic or specialized versions. After that, most unlocks occur naturally through gameplay. Many rackets are obtained simply by reaching match milestones, typically between ten and forty total matches played.
For example, some rackets follow this progressive system. The Ink Jet racket unlocks after roughly 14 matches played, the Banana racket around 16 matches, and the Volcano racket after approximately 18 matches. This structure allows players to access a wide variety of effects early on without requiring complex challenges.
Other Frenzy Rackets are tied to Adventure Mode or special matches. By progressing through the story or completing specific encounters, players unlock more original rackets capable of summoning enemies, creating tornadoes, shadows, or environmental obstacles on the court. Certain variants are also linked to specific modes, including one racket exclusive to Swing Mode.
The full list notably includes rackets such as Bullet Bill, Flame, Ice, Lightning, Mini Mushroom, Shadow, Spiny, Ty-foo, Thwomp, Golden Dash, Volcano, Wind, and Pokey, each introducing its own gameplay effect that directly influences rally pacing and match flow.
In practice, the fastest method is to alternate between Classic Matches and Adventure Mode progression. The game is designed so that nearly all Frenzy Rackets unlock naturally before completing the solo content, without requiring any dedicated farming.
